This blog is open for people to tell their real stories of Marshall University's tragic plane crash and rebirth of the program. It is not affliated with the University or the Warner Brothers movie. It is the story in the words of those people that were most involved. If you wish to tell your feelings, your opinions, your rememberences, please feel free to do so. Post comments and I will move them up so others can read!

I was a sophomore at MU in 1970. On the evening of November 14th, I was having dinner with a date at the MaKiki. It was a great Polynesian restaurant/club owned by Harold Frankel.
Both the MaKiki and Harold are sadly gone now.
The tables were fairly close together there and sometimes you couldn't help but hear conversations near you.
We noticed a buzz of conversation grow louder. We heard snippets..."football team", "crash at Tri-State".
I got up and went over to a group of people who had risen to go get their coats. I asked one of the hardest questions I've ever spoken. The group confirmed to me what had happened.
As word of the crash spread through the club, virtually everyone got up, threw money on the tables and left. I've never seen anything like it. A pleasant night out had suddenly turned to horror and grief.
I'm sure everyone spent the rest of the night as I did: changing from channel to channel on the television, listening to the radio, calling the Herald-Advertiser, hoping for good news, but hearing none.
Huntington may have been a larger town then, but we were all united in our sorrow.
We hold the 75 in our hearts now just as we did then. It's personal with us. We, the people of Huntington, truly ARE Marshall.
